Where Funds Raised Go

In 2024, the inaugural Cancer Research Golf Classic was held at Quinta do Lago, Portugal, in support of cancer research. The event was a resounding success, receiving exceptional feedback from all who attended and participated. Most importantly, it raised an incredible €325,000 for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.

The funds raised have made a meaningful impact, supporting cancer research activities that enable the recruitment, development, and training of staff, advance the global understanding of cancer, and ultimately improve outcomes for patients.

This funding has directly supported cancer research at the Lambe Institute for Translational Research, including:

  • Cancer Clinical Trials Programme
    • Two research nurses were appointed in 2025, directly supporting patient recruitment to clinical trials and enabling new trials to become accessible to patients in our region.
  • Laboratory Bench Research Programme
    • Two PhD scholars commenced their research in January 2025, with plans to recruit a further four scholars by the end of the year.
  • Cancer Biobank Development and Accreditation
    • The Cancer Biobank supports a broad spectrum of cancer research, including common cancers such as lung, prostate, colon, and breast cancer.

None of this would be possible without philanthropic support. Events like the Cancer Research Golf Classic play a vital role in advancing cancer research and improving patient care.

Following the success of our inaugural event, we have decided to host the Golf Classic every two years. Our next event will take place at Quinta do Lago from 14 – 16 May 2026, and it is envisaged that more philanthropic funds will again be raised for cancer research through the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.
